Pros
A good place to learn basic retail skills Loyal customers and an even more loyal staff Impossible to get fired unless you steal, get angry at a customer, or openly do drugs Generally easy tasks, especially if you're working as a sales clerk up front Scheduling is PRETTY flexible, if you need time off once in a while, even for no reason, they will usually oblige you.
Cons
Everything in the company is based around numbers and counts, no logic is ever applied Cliquey and lazy employees will give you grief until you've worked there for an impossibly long time Many customers can be rude and MUCH too personal with the staff, do something as simple as get a new haircut and a customer will criticize you for it as you're ringing them up. Also many will treat you as their personal shopping assistant. This definitely gets tiring. There are NO promotions and no benefits for working here. Be prepared to work there for ten years and get maybe a 50 cent pay raise and still be working checkout at all hours and days of the week. Management treats most of their employees like children.
