Pros

Okay pay though not as much as cvs in my area. 401k is pretty good, though like all the other benefits, not as good as it used to be. Don't have to say "be well" anymore!

Cons

Nights, weekends, holidays... You'll work them all - upper management will send you a letter thanking you for your dedication for working on Christmas even though you were required to. They expect you to build your life around their open 24/7 schedule but are not willing to negotiate to help you. I asked for my hours to be reduced and was told I would have to go back to floating rather than just give up 1 shift per week. Every year they push back pay raises. This year we got a "bonus" that didn't even equal a day's pay after taxes were taken out as an apology for no raise. Training of new technicians is almost nonexistent. Unless you are working with a tech that had a lot of experience, good luck. Having someone click through a bunch of online modules that are severely outdated does not constitute training. The only way to move stores is to threaten to quit. Or at least that has been my experience. They like to place pharmacists at a store far from their home. It's crazy how many stores everyone passes on their way to work. It's like they don't care about that at all. They also don't care about inclement weather. Be it snow or ice you better get your store open so that the one customer who didn't plan ahead can get their cialis.

Pros

-Many different departments to choose from -Decently flexible hours -Managers are usually friendly

Cons

-After 8 years of working there, my pay went up a grand total of $1.50 -Corporate cuts hours frequently -Training is not what is used to be. When I first started, training was amazing. Every department had a district supervisor that would hold meetings, and visit stores, to makes sure all the employees knew what was going on. That was cut, and most training is either through emails, or on paper. When I first went into pharmacy(after 6 years with the company), my complete training was done in front of a computer. I did everything once, and was expected to jump right in, in one of the busiest stores in the district, in the busiest time of the year. I was the only one in pharmacy, who was NOT sent to a quiet store, to get one on one training. Training has definitely decreased.

Pros

It's a job. This is a good starter job if you need experience. The Walgreen's name on your resume will look good.

Cons

Salaries and benefits are very low and are not competitive. Annual raises are less than 1%. Learning opportunities are minimal. Walgreen's is very tight with their money so it's nearly impossible to receive any training (except for terrible "learning" opportunities at Walgreen's University) The potential to be promoted is extremely limited as the finance division is extremely analyst heavy. Management treats their employees like a commodity. There is zero attempt to keep employees happy. If you want to be in a pleasant work environment Walgreen's is not the company for you. Walgreen's is extremely tight on spending. People frequently get trapped in the toilets because the locks keep breaking. We now even have single-ply ~3.5 inch wide toilet paper. Best case scenario there is one annual appreciation outing for finance employees. They take you to a bowling alley and provide free soda..... (last year (2014) we didn't get anything).
