Pros

Walmart could be a one stop shop. what i mean by that is ,there are so many oportunities and so many different things you can do at a walmart as far as career goes.

Cons

If you get in the wrong store under the wrong supervision getting promoted could take a long time.if your'e not in the store gossip crew. (the click.)

Pros

Ability to work around school schedule was great. I simply told my manager what days and times i would like to work.

Cons

Wal-Mart is notorious for cutting all full-time, non-management positions. This didn't really effect me since I wanted part-time employment. However, I know of several people who had nothing else but Wal-Mart and suddenly their wages were cut and they found themselves without insurance. There are a few really good managers who would go out of their way to help any associate at any time of the day with whatever was going on. The majority of managers it seems where unfit for the tasks that their job presented.

Pros

Easy-going management. friendly atmosphere. opportunities for advancement if you want to make it a career (most people don't). as long as your attendance is good you more than likely can keep your job. 10% discount on some products. Overall, its a great place to work while you are inbetween jobs. I think they know this and don't really expect the average person to stay very long anyway. But one good thing about Wal-Mart is that if you don't like the job you are doing they have no problem moving you somewhere else. They are very laid back that way.

Cons

unpredictable schedule (but Wal-Mart is 24/7 retail so that's the nature of it). if you are part-time (and most are, especially at first) there will be times when you get very little hours. pay is very, very low which makes it difficult to stay long term. My store's turnover goal was 66%, actual turnover was 82%! benefits are ok but most of the associates can't afford to participate in them. associate discount isn't store wide and you never know which items are eligible. you use your discount card when you buy something and sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you don't.
