Pros

Friendly atmosphere and you can make a decent amount of money working there. In general, the people are friendly and willing to help out with any problems you have.

Cons

You need to know someone to get promoted above assistant manager. On the hourly side, the pay ranges are not that strong and raises can only happen once a year.

Pros

The pay and the benefits are better than most retail companies for the same job. The stock options, profit sharing and 401k really make a difference after just a few years. Some of the associates I have worked with are outstanding.

Cons

As with most companies the economy has changed them. Wal-mart has changed so much over the last few years it is not the same anymore. For any associate that has been with them over ten years they can tell you that the basic belief “ respect for the individual” is not looked at the same way anymore. Associate retention used to a big deal. Over the last few years instead of including associates when change is needed; now they are replaced. Everyone understands change is required but now long term associates are disposable. Job security used to mean something if you accomplished a great evaluation every year. I have seen associate treatment deteriorate and moral drop in many stores. Overall it is still a better place to work than a lot of companies – it just isn’t the great place to work it once was.
