Pros

Great for career advancement. Looks good on a resume as an IT professional to have worked with Wal-Mart Information Systems. Exposure to a wide variety of systems Solid benefits package You *will* learn what "enterprise level" software really means. Wal-Mart systems will expose the weaknesses in any software (internally or externally developed).

Cons

The senior management in the Information Systems division values skill at internal politics over actual technical accomplishment. Project management is preached, but actual project are generally understaffed and have ridiculous timelines. When projects hit critical statuses (which they will), project management concepts go out the window. Consistently penny-wise and pound-foolish on systems planning. You have to submit requests for way more hardware than you actually need, because whatever you submit *will* be cut to barebones, barely functioning levels.
