Pros

I liked working with the people who shopped and my peers. I even respected half the management. The job was challenging and fun.

Cons

No annual reviews; no responses for verbal feedback. My job, like many, required too much full attention and was emotionally, mentally and physically draining. Responsibilities were management but not credited or paid for. Promises were made very easily to get more work with no regard to the repercussion to the employee. They will deceive.

Pros

Hardworking coworkers, friendly and likeable customers.

Cons

I have a great front end manager, but his hands are tied, there really is no qualified leadership. Kids get to place boss, some of which I don't think even have a high school diploma. I have been told more than once to do work when I have been "off the clock"; when I have questioned these "orders", I am called into the office and told I have a bad attitude. I changed banks and requested direct deposit; at the time the new bank I was switching to had a promotion of $50.00 being deposited to my new account as long as the direct deposit happened within six weeks. The people at the bank told me six weeks was more than enough time, as direct deposit usually only takes about three weeks. Well, the payroll department with Weis managed to screw this up too. They sent my paycheck to the store where I work, this went on for three weeks. When I would go in to get my paycheck, I would have to take a written test before I would be handed my paycheck???? Again, off the clock. The payroll department was called; they apologized, but then they sent my paycheck to my old bank, thank goodness I left the account open. So, long story short; it took about two months for payroll to deposit my paycheck into my new checking account with a new bank. WOW! I did get the $50.00 promotional offer with the new bank; they asked me for the phone number to the payroll department with Weis. In August I requested some information regarding any health insurance which might be offered to employees; I work 32-38 hours a week, but am classified as part time. We have an HR person at the store who is approximately ten years old. He just kinda wanders around the store most of the time; one night he came in the store quite intoxicated, which a lot of the "kids" thought was funny. Well, I asked him on several occasions to get some information for me regarding health insurance so I could sign up in a timely manner considering we have a NEW law in this country for everyone. Last week, which is now November, I finally got some written information from HR in Sunbury, PA., regarding health insurance. Does anyone know how to do their job?? Does anyone even care??? This has been a constant. I have worked for many years in my life, but this is the worst place I have ever worked. The pay is just awful, after two years of working here, I have come to realize, nothing is going to get better, this is too bad. I would compare Weis with the media coverage and recent comments by Gil Smart in this weeks Lancaster Sunday paper; people are terribly exploited by these companies; and it is getting harder for me to provide good customer service at Weis. I am extremely disappointed. Working hard, not missing days of work have not paid off at all.
