Pros
Great place for those who perhaps want more of a work/life balance. Most areas of the firm provide a stable work environment where you can earn an ok salary and can take off at around 5:30 everyday. UNLESS you work on the investor side. Investor side is very demanding but they pay you very well - they make a pretty clear line between those who are investors and those who aren't (basically the rest of the firm is support staff to them). A huge chunk of the profits go to the partners and investors - that's where you want to be.
Cons
Not so great for ambitious types looking to get promoted or performance-based pay in my group. I wasn't on the investor side so you generally don't get promoted or paid based on performance. You just kind of blend in with the rest of the firm and are usually caught in office politics. Basically, if you're not a portfolio manager or researcher, then you won't make partner and won't earn the big bucks. You're pretty much on equal terms with the rest of the middle/back office staffs at other banks.
