Worker sentiment is very low in 2018

Pros

Great benefits, free gym, free parking

Cons

Management is terrible, and the company is on a firing streak right now, so no one feels secure. The Human Resources hiring staff is all young girls with no real life experience, and they don't know what they're doing. They take way too long to hire and, by then, ideal candidates have taken jobs elsewhere. The company stresses an emphasis on culture, but the culture as described doesn't match the culture in the workplace. It's a tough industry right now, and the leadership isn't prepared for what's ahead. Many in leadership are simply people who've been at the company for a long time but are not equipped to really lead. Lots of people losing their jobs so not many feel secure right now. Unemployment is very low in Iowa so there are more secure opportunities out there.

Pros

Great overall benefits including a performance incentive plan for all employees at all levels (at my former employer only exempt/salaried employees participated in the bonus plan), tuition assistance, free membership for employees and their plus one to Well for Life Center, free annual health screenings plus $ incentives to get or stay healthy, free parking, onsite café and store.

Cons

Sometimes just saying I work for an insurance company (not Wellmark specifically) due to the negative spotlight the industry has currently. Everything we do at Wellmark is for our members so at the end of the day I am very proud to work for such a great company.

Pros

I have worked for Wellmark for over two years now and have seen such a great effort by an employer to create a comfortable and inviting work experience. Not only do they provide a great environment, but they have great benefits! From being able to push a button on your desk and have it raise to stand and work to their state of the art, full service gym which is FREE to all employees and one family member! They offer a full range of daily classes which includes spinning, personal training, massage therapy and a wide assortment of gym equipment. Not only that, but they pay you to go to the gym! Very few employers offer both a 401k with a 4% match and a Pension at 6% of your earnings, as well as a Medical Retiree account of $3,000 per year. Then, there is the college tuition with no waiting period of up to $15,000 per year and student loan repayment of $5,000 per year after one year of employment. There is covered parking in the winter for all which is priceless in Iowa and you do not have to leave for breakfast or lunch because they have a full-service cafeteria offering both breakfast and lunch. Then there is the bistro where you can get your latte or daily fresh popped popcorn. They encourage professional growth and make it possible to move across business lines to other areas, as well as offer resume assistance.

Cons

Wellmark has the same, expected challenges as does any business, but if you have to go to work for 8 hours a day, I wouldn't want to be anywhere else!
