Pros

Great culture and peers to work with. In addition the student body is overwhelmingly positive and hard working. As you may expect a few exceptions exist, but that impact is minimal. The benefits are very good and include medical care on premise (on campus). Good review process that is open and supportive.

Cons

Raises are small. I have observed some political posturing on a few occasions. The hiring process is very slow. Pay in general is low, when compared to opportunities in industry. Offices provided are very minimal and lack privacy for tough discussions with students when needed. Open cubicles and at best a three walled open top box for tenured staff. Classrooms are also getting dated in most buildings (HCOB).

Pros

Students aren't the brightest, but they are willing to learn. Some programs will let you teach which gives valuable experience

Cons

Small town, lots of jocks and frat boys. Not much to do except drink; seems like it's fun for undergrads and grad students tend to have to stick together, so make sure you are in a program with friendly peers or else you're on your own.
