Working in an intellectually stimulating environment, benefits are pretty good including health clinic and wellness incentives

Cons

Below market pay. There are no salary increases based on experience or merit despite the existence of a salary scale. Pay rate stays the same from the day you arrive. Across the board increases of 2% have occurred in the past. Glacial bureaucracy can be frustrating.

Nice benefit package. Casual work environment. Benefit eligible staff get free tuition for themselves and family discount.

Cons

Difficult process to get a deserved pay raise or promotion. Staff positions don't seem to be highly valued.

Pros

Salary and benefits (for me as a senior administrator). Academics feel otherwise.

Cons

University administration was appalling. Largely incompetent, but a complete culture of fear among academics, at least in the College of Arts and Sciences. University commonly acts illegally simply because it is a state institution and no one dares take them to the court. Overall, a bullying, awful working environment. All staff refer to this as "the Western Way," being a lack of inspiration and direction, and a thorough-going culture of mediocrity.
