Pros

My supervisor allowed my schedule to be flexible due to attending school. I was provided a lot of opportunity to learn new tasks, work with great professionals and develop a great work ethic. It was a great work atmosphere.

Cons

I can't really say there was any negatives. The staff I worked with were full of knowledge and provided me with great guidance. It was a great job while in college.

Pros

It's an amazing place for a student to work. You're lucky if you're hired

Cons

Sometimes you are powerless against the larger powers, not so much in AS but at WWU

Pros

WWU is one of the best employers in Bellingham. Compensation is (so I hear) low relative to other universities, but for Bellingham, it's very good. For benefited employees, the benefits are great, especially if your position is exempt. Staff in many cases have it better than faculty when it comes to overall compensation (other than tenured faculty of course). Work-life balance is understood, so it's a great workplace for someone with a family.

Cons

The normal schedule is 8AM to 5PM. That can be difficult for people with young children in school; but with the right supervisor and the right kind of position, a different start time can often be negotiated. Many positions are part-time and have no benefits; but positions open up quite frequently and once you're "in" at Western, you're encouraged to apply for positions when they become available.
