Pros

Working for a university which makes a difference in students lives is a very rewarding experience. Having a job here has helped me understand the effort it takes to run a university.

Cons

There are only so many jobs you can work in before you run out of moves. Outside candidates are considered for jobs which makes it harder to move up in the organization.

- Great people at middle positions - Excellent wealth of knowledge available - Plenty of infectious student energy and drive

Cons

- Fighting budget issues - Lots of internal waste and wheel-spinning - Wrangling the politics

Pros

The campus is pleasant, small enough to walk across, and clean; good benefits; Bellingham is a nice place to live with good public transportation.

Cons

Depends on the department. In some cases (such as mine) women were cut out of the loop on important matters. Little or no real support from administration.
