There is favoritism in management, not a lot of opportunity to grow, and the university uses outdated systems that are hard to navigate.

If you are conservative, or right leaning in any manner, you find it more difficult to fit in here. However, at the counseling center, there is space for all ideologies. Just know you will not be the majority if you are right leaning. Also, the counseling center only provides brief individual therapy. There ar opportunities for long term work with some client but they are few. you will only be able to see clients every other week and much of your work will be solutions focused. Also, you will spend a lot of time doing triage work. this is good experience but if this not what you are interested in, be mindful of this.
