Pros

Job stability with lots of work to be done. Free lunch in a nostalgic cafeteria setting that hasn’t changed since the 1970s. Many opportunities to support company sponsored charities and fund raising throughout the year. Free W&S logo pens. A small company library where you can check out business books for free. Company discounts for a variety of local activities W&S supports throughout the year.

Cons

Limited advancement opportunities. Heavy management hierarchy where it is all about who you know and not what you know. Senior management maintains a purposeful separation from employees. Very antiquated work environment with highly restricted opportunities to work remotely. Professional business attire with rarely a business casual day. Monthly downtown parking costs and extra fuel costs for daily commuting. Low annual merit increases on limited salary bands. All events including celebrations, funerals, promotions, retirements, holiday gatherings, etc. come out of worker’s pockets. Company doesn’t spend a penny on any of it. New employees get more respect, support, and opportunities for advancement than tenured employees.

Pros

Free lunch; good healthcare benefits; pension and 401K match. Approve of CEO. It’s the CIO that I would not approve of. See below.

Cons

IT is treated poorly by all other areas of the company and the CIO is a lot to blame for this. Business and IT Technology is aging but the SR leadership focuses on buying software to manage IT budgets and projects and creating process flows on how to manage projects. CIO’s focus is on red tape and creating roadblocks and blaming her department for issues versus being a passionate leader that is investing her time in making the company holistically better and valuing her employees. Highly recommend not considering WS until CIO is replaced. PMO practices are outdated and impede progress. Issues have been brought to CIO attention, but they fall on deaf ears. Work balance is not good. People are promoted by hours in your seat versus quality work. This is a “Boys Club” as well. Don’t rock the boat here or ask challenging questions.
