Still using old style management and politics

Pros

Higher salaries than most. Westinghouse had a huge need for employees and was willing to overpay to get what they wanted.

Cons

Gross over hiring. First round of layoffs have hit and the second round is on its way. Advancement is based on politics, not merit. The highly touted alternate work arrangement is slowly being pulled since old style management doesnt like it.

Cons

sometime bogged down with busy work. Unclear project goal. customer driven directives.

What you'd expect from a large organization

Pros

Flex Time (telecommuting 2 days a week or 9/80's) wasn't eliminated (yet) even with current climate. Can work 9 hour days and have every other Friday off...like a long weekend every other week. Pay is very good for the area. Still has a Pension Plan which is rare nowadays (though rumors are that this is due to change).

Cons

Still have some managers there that have no business being in management. Decisions take forever and require multiple levels of approval, like we're working in the government it seems, so employees sit idle waiting for some of these decisions. A lot of silo'd thinking across the different product lines. They claim "ONE" Westinghouse but I don't see it.
