Pros

On paper, Whisker sounds great. They are taking on hard problems and advocating to improve pet health. - fun team building events - nice coworkers - will support learning new skills related to work - if you can "play the game" there is room to grow

Cons

In practice, Whisker missed the mark. The culture they share during the interview process doesn't match what happens behind the scenes. There is definitely favoritism and a bait and switch on remote versus in-person work. More middle managers are added instead of hiring people to actually do the work. - inconsistent communication between product and engineers - unrealistic deadlines that end up mostly ignored anyway - pet health features take a back seat - budget distributed unequally across organizations

Pros

Room for growth because of how fast the company is going! Great employees to bond with (possibly trauma bond). I feel like being in office hybrid or full time, helps you create friendships more so than work collaborating. There are really good moments which make you proud to be at Whisker, like hearing how fast the company is growing and having the opportunity to wear multiple hats (if you like that)

Cons

Leadership doesn't lead by example, purposely not clear on expectations so they can use it against you later. Dangle promotions in front of you and favor people who are not team players. Leadership was really making it feel like you would only be noticed if you were in office 5 days a week when a lot of us were contracted hybrid. Kinda felt toxic, especially when a good amount of leaders/teams are still fully remote too. I wish I advocated for myself more, my manager always acted like they had my back but then when push came to shove....they really didn't. Just felt like the target was always moving but then they would just paint it as positive/challenges for growth opportunities. Reflecting on my role, I do think I did WAY more than what was expected and what I was compensated for.
