Pros

Nice benefits package, good work/life balance culture, possibilities for telecommuting, managers offer clear vision of the expectations and goals.

Cons

Workforce disruption, leading to numerous departures of talent, both self-directed and company-directed. Upper management seems to either not care or fails to convey future strategy to employees.

Great coworkers, too much bureaucracy

Pros

People are Wiley's best assets: hard working, friendly, down-to-earth people. The Hoboken office location is in perfect proximity to NYC and NJ suburbs. Internal promotion and compensation is very fair, as far as publishing companies go. Layoffs are a sensitive process, but Wiley was very fair and gave people considerable notice before they were expected to leave the company.

Cons

Change and the accompanying turmoil is not being handled well. The publishing industry as a whole is trying to reinvent itself, and Wiley is, too, but with lots of starts and stops and unfulfilled promises to its employees. The attempt to eliminate unnecessary bureaucracy resulted in increased bureaucracy, outsourcing IT has resulted in spamming of the entire company every time something breaks, and internal data integrity is as bad as ever . . . all of which makes folks question who is really managing the change at this company and where Wiley is headed.

Pros

Great benefits - best I ever had. Excellent medical coverage and lots of paid time off.

Cons

In an ever-changing publishing world, trying to figure out future strategy. Confusing culture - used to have a strong "Wiley family" presence, but now - like most publishing companies - is just focused on the bottom line.
