Pros

Since employee retention is relatively high (most people in my department having been there for years) the culture is very nice. Everyone is friendly and very positive. The pay raise is better than I’m used to, the benefits are incredible at $30 a month for medical/dental/vision for Blue Cross, and the customers are generally lovely. The 401k and ESOP are /excellent/ opportunities. Management is generally helpful, encouraging, and appreciative for your work.

Cons

The schedule. It’s completely random, and they don’t respect availability very well. I am frequently scheduled outside of my available times and days. Hours are also fewer than expected. I am considered full time with health insurance and regularly make under 32 hours. Very frustrating. Hours are purportedly based on efficiency (dollars you can scan/cost of employing you) but higher efficiency does not always mean more house for you.

Pros

Being able to socialize with other co workers and customers . Good pay

Cons

I was in overnight stocking so I had to bend for stuff and also had to be on your knees quite often but you get knee pads to help .

Upper management doesn't care

Pros

It's employee owned, so if you're there long enough you can secure a solid retirement. And for a retail job the health plan is solid.

Cons

I thought this company would be better. From a company that was employee owned, I really thought they'd care about the well being of their workers. And some of them they do...if you hit store managent, you'll be earning six figures. But I was trying to make it by in a high COL metro for a quarter above minimum, all while my schedule changed every week, I had the occasional terrifying customer with minimal support from management. There were several very notable threats to physical safety at our and nearby locations and the store was clearly more focused on loss prevention than it was on keeping it's customers and employees safe. I get flashbacks to my time at WinCo every time I think about going into a grocery store.
