Good pay, state benefits, faculty have academic freedom, tenure and promotion is straightforward in most departments

Cons

A lot of unnecessary changes to curriculum based on who is in power, not enough support services for students, and too much extra delegated to faculty, which takes away from the time spent on teaching and research
