Pros

Woolpert has a lot of the benefits of a small, family-oriented firm while also being pretty cool and international. I really appreciate the flexibility and growth potential here. My coworkers are all genuinely caring people and that makes a big difference in the day-to-day grind. This company is very ambitious and it's a challenging workplace, but a very good culture.

Cons

There's a lot of growth which means a lot of change and challenges. That's inevitable for a growing firm, but nonetheless tough.

Pros

Get to see a lot of the country, nice trucks to drive, good benefits.

Cons

Communication is horrible, zero accountability for those who don’t do their job, lots of travel, no local work to fall back on, forced to take unscheduled vacations just to make 40 hours, too hands off. Culture is apathetic, nobody cares about anything except office happy hours at the bar down the street.

At Woolpert, we work diligently to improve communication and have developed several channels through which employees can convey feedback. We conduct an anonymous Great Place to Work Survey annually where the results play a critical role in the firm’s continuous improvement, host open mic sessions with the CEO, and operate with an open door policy to address employee concerns. Strategically, we are market focused, which allows for flexibility and the ability to share resources across our various markets, which gives employees development opportunities and the potential to be more influential industry leaders. While we promote fun in the workplace, we also maintain a professional pay-for-performance workplace philosophy that rewards those who work hard and do their best each day at work. The culture creates an environment of accountability, work life balance, paid vacation, and opportunities for career advancement.

Pros

Good work/life balance.

Cons

Opportunities for advancement extremely limited in South Carolina; they hire too many EITs which creates a bottleneck for advancement. Their only requirement for managers seems to be an engineering degree, and engineers almost never make the best managers. Their "Great Place to Work" certification was obtained through coercion. Compensation is well below industry standards in South Carolina. Management doesn't care about you and Human Resources is a joke; they have no idea how to handle employee conflict.

We value and take candid feedback from our employees very seriously, and would not attempt to influence Great Place to Work Survey results. With that being said, the Great Place to Work organization establishes several layers of safeguards that prevent any company from influencing the Great Place to Work Survey. We progress as a firm by listening to our people. In line with promoting and fostering a continuous learning environment, we have developed a new series of training sessions for new and current managers to ensure that they are better equipped for their leadership role. As part of the leadership training curriculum, we are addressing conflict resolution, which HR supports with our experienced professionals, and documented policies and procedures.
