A Special Place

Pros

I have been with EW for over 7 years - it's a special place to work and unlike anywhere else I have ever been. It is characterised by hardworking, passionate people, who all look after each other. They believe that happy colleagues means happy clients, and their retention rates would certainly validate that view.

Cons

It's challenging and not for everyone. The pace is frenetic and there isn't much time to catch breath. It's a tough competitive sector, and there are no hiding places!

Pros

Exceptionally strong values - to provide brilliant service and to do the right thing for clients and colleagues - with strong leadership. It seems that EW really does care about its clients and colleagues - and it seems to be always challenging itself to do better. With the founder, Mark Ellis, returning to the business last year and with a great new MD, Gavin Snell, joining and with many investments now being made in good people and systems, there is an exciting, energetic and positive feel in the business. There is a genuine desire by colleagues to deliver the best (brilliant) quality fixed fee HR/ employment law / health & safety services, which feels good.

Cons

It's a fast growing forward thinking business with big ambition and demanding expectations and standards, which brings plenty of challenges and does not suit everybody. However the business is investing in people and systems and so those people that buy into the vision are excited by the challenge and future.

Pros

Employee engagement is incredible with BREWS (Body Representing Ellis Whittam). This is made up of everyday staff members from each department. BREWS is responsible for allow the employees to have a voice and to organise fun events to get staff involved. The directors actually AIM to have a great working environment and genuinely want staff to be happy and proud to be at EW. My managers are extremely supportive. EW has a very inclusive atmosphere. This was a little strange to me personally at first as i'm not very forthcoming. However within days I found myself saying "hi" to random people in passing which eventually progresses into conversations. This means eventually you get to have working relationships with A LOT of lovely and interesting people. Every member of staff gets their own desk phone.

Cons

I get the feeling the BDE team don't have the same amazing experience that I have due to it being so target driven however I've never actually heard a complaint... just stresses. Chris can't keep up with refilling the coffee machine enough because we all go through a ton of coffee per day. No mobile phone signal but wifi is provided. The induction is very intense but also very informative. Thank god i didn't start inductions on day 1.

You are right to pick up that the team is target driven and the team thrive on the buzz of being under pressure and achieving great rewards with it!
