Glad I got out

Pros

Some really good people still there. Good autonomy and did not encounter micromanagers.

Cons

Changed in past few yrs and it is definitely not the same company it was when I joined. It became difficult to trust what some of the newer leaders in our org said, because actions often did not match words. Decisions seemed haphazard. On some teams, cliques and backstabbing to get ahead became the norm. Helps to have good hair.

A struggling company

Pros

* Good location closing to BART station * Flexible 401K manangement under Fidelity * Free snacks

Cons

* The service is built on proprietary software and does not leverage open-source technologies. In particular, XO technology is only used within the Workday context, limiting opportunities for young developers to learn and grow with widely adopted tools. * The current CEO (Carl Eschenbach) lacks a clear vision for the company’s growth. His primary focus appears to be cost control and workforce reduction. While senior leadership frequently promotes the importance of AI, they lack a concrete strategy or understanding of where it can be meaningfully applied. * The company once fostered a developer-friendly culture, but that environment has deteriorated. Middle management has become increasingly political, using company-wide layoffs as a tool to eliminate internal competition.

No Career Growth

Pros

They pay you, you get a desk, my coworkers were nice.

Cons

This is not a place to join if you are looking to grow in your career. This is more of a collect a paycheck and leave early location. CEO is gutting the company. I think it is just the nature of the product. It is past its growth phase and now is just in maintenance mode. Do NOT join here as an "App Dev" - you'll be using XO the proprietary language, which is fine but it isn't a marketable skill and you will have a very hard time switching out of it since no one wants to learn it.
