Pros

Strong community feel with good resources to provide support in both your professional and personal life. Good opportunities for ICs to progress, with clear competencies and level guides. Management seem to genuinely care about the wellbeing of employees.

Cons

There does appear to be some nepotism within management positions, often finding that senior management are recruited from pools of previous colleagues for existing senior management, rather than training and promotion of internal managers. Huge emphasis on recruiting more sales staff to ramp up S&S volumes, however there is no proactive hiring in the other areas of the business which are required to support that intended volume. Job roles have changed significantly over the years, with many people now doing entirely different tasks to those which they were hired for, causing many people to disengage with their roles and coast by. Salaries are very stale - 2-3% annual increases and 50th percentile approach to pay i.e. Ask for you to be 'the best' but pay for 'average'

Once Great, Now a Cautionary Tale

Pros

The company used to have a strong sense of innovation and a fun work culture. Work-life balance (though this is slowly deteriorating). Decent pay, though other companies are starting to catch up.

Cons

Workiva has gone through some major shifts recently, and unfortunately, they haven’t been for the better. When I first joined, the company had a culture of collaboration and a real focus on innovation. It was a place where you felt valued, and it showed in how employees interacted with each other. Fast forward a few years, and that’s a distant memory. The biggest blow recently was the marketing department's massive layoff—this was the largest round of cuts the company has seen in years. What’s particularly frustrating is that this happened shortly after the company hired a large group of field marketers, who, despite being the most recent hires, managed to keep their jobs while others were let go. Meanwhile, employees who had been with the company for a while (mostly 35 years old+) were shown the door under the guise of "restructuring." It’s hard not to see this as a personal decision by management rather than a strategic business move. There’s also a clear pattern: the employees let go were not just senior, but seemed to be those who had been there for a while or those management had personal issues with. Management is clearly reactive, not proactive. They hire in a panic, and then when things don’t go as planned, they make drastic cuts without thinking about the long-term effects. The sense of loyalty and stability that was once a part of the company has disappeared. If you decide to work here, just know that Workiva is not a company to stay with for the long haul. They’ve made it clear that you’re a cost, not an asset. Treat it like a stepping stone and use the time to gain experience for a company that actually has your back. You won’t be retiring here, and they will likely never look out for your long-term interests.
