Pros

An organization that genuinely cares about its employees' professional and spiritual development.

Cons

Depending on the team you work with or your job duties, working at WV can be stressful.

Stress can, indeed, run high in our organization especially around key events and cyclical campaigns. We are pleased to offer some employer resources aimed at helping. Part of our staff care work includes wellness, fun employee events throughout the year, use of an assessment tool that identifies personal stressors, and our employee assistance resources. I’ve learned that I have to know my own stressors and apply stress management strategies that are most useful for me during hectic times.

Pros

Their work has powerful impact hear in the US and across the world. They produce some of the best content of any organization I've ever worked with. You certainly get to play a part of something bigger.

Cons

They mean well, but often bureaucracy, silos, and keeping information as currency kills great ideas and disrupts progress. Often the requirement for buy-in across large cross functional teams muddles the outcome of projects. The work cut off and be done with half to one third the people involved. More agility is needed.

Improving our agility is a key focus for us. Some of the elements you describe - eliminating bureaucracy, hiring experts, enabling the right people to lead out versus having too many people involved – are all things we are actively doing more and better. Making significant improvements in something like agility does take time and we are committed to progress. Our love for the mission and improving the lives of the most vulnerable children compel us to do so!

Great possibilities but problematic leadership

Pros

Great mission and lives are blessed by the work.

Cons

Leadership doesn't listen; doesn't change; limited Diversity in top and mid level Leadership in gender, ethnicity, age or experience which impacts possible growth and direction. Although Christianity is proclaimed, the donor is God. If the decision to be made is the right thing to do but could result in the loss of donors, the donor wins every time. Another challenge for the organization is moving/terminating unproductive leadership. Toxic and arrogant leaders are rampant!!!

We are proud of our senior leadership team and Board of Director diversity, with good representation of women and people of color in both groups. Our core value, Valuing People, is clear about our commitment and we have chosen to increase our focus on diversity with a strategy we shared with all staff, establishing a new employee council to help guide our work, and launching forums for dialog in this space. In addition, our focus on strengthening managers is targeted to ensure all staff are supported to be and do their very best. We look forward to the fruit our investments in these two areas as we journey on to remain faithful to our mission, "bringing life in all its fullness to every child." Thank you for your five years of service with us; wishing the best in your next season.
