Not a quality employer

Pros

I had no previous consulting experience, but ALON was willing to give me a chance. The company does provide annual bonuses and has a stellar holiday party.

Cons

On-site management was of little help when it came to resolving issues (either internally or with the client). They were unwilling to have honest discussions with employees and even more unwilling to actually take action on their behalf. I was handed leadership responsibilities for extended periods of time despite the fact that I was the lowest paid member of the team. When I requested an early evaluation and increased salary I was told to put my request in writing so that it could be sent to HQ. Months later I realized that the on-site PM had never actually submitted my request. My opinion of the on-site mangagement was shared by the other employees I spoke with. There was no real vision for the company or leadership exhibited by the managers. They consistently showed a level of disrespect toward their co-workers that would not be accepted at most companies. Oddly enough, though, at ALON, these were the only people moving up the corporate ladder. They failed to take care of good employees and allowed sub-par employees to linger in positions as long as they didn't rock the boat.

Pros

This is not a highly demanding job. The pay and benefits are good. If you are an unmotivated individual with little aspirations, this is the place for you.

Cons

The lackadaisical atmosphere permeates through the organization resulting in an unchallenging work environment and lazy culture. I was placed on client site as a Technical Writer and discovered that they in fact hired me to act as a personal assistant for the client. There is a lack of direction from leadership. The company and its workforce is young and lack the experience to direct and lead properly. The contract I was hired for is now in jeopardy and there has been minimal action taken to save it. I feel very deceived by what was communicated in the interview about my role and opportunities for advancement.

Shady company, poor business practices

Pros

Little to no management while on site, which means there's no accountability for your job, if you like that type of employment.

Cons

This company does not have your back at all. I made a complaint to my "supervisor" about being harassed by one of the onsite clients, which was completely ignored. There was little to no supervision over my position, which also meant no real training, no opportunity to grow. Anytime I tried to request to use my "professional development funds" the request was denied. It is unclear if anyone in this company has ever been able to use them, as I have heard similar stories from others at different client sites. Their PTO is pretty weak and the rest of the benefit are not at all competitive for the market. Do yourself a favor, and stay far away from here.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review, and as an organization that prides itself on our commitment with employees, we are saddened to hear that you did not feel a connection to management or the company at large. While each agency that employees are assigned to have a central point of contact for the work site, we will continue to improve on the connection with our agency-based workforce and team building across all sites. With regards to raising a complaint or utilizing company benefit programs, the Human Resources department is always available to assist with a concern at the workplace, or to take advantage of our professional development benefit program. We communicate our internal process and company benefits to all new hires beginning from orientation, then again through onboarding, and throughout the year with both formal and informal communication. While this particular opportunity may not have been a perfect fit with your professional and personal goals, we sincerely wish you the best of luck in your next professional endeavor.
