Pros

It's hard to describe the pros of this company when you work in support. You can see that the company is important and has potential, good benefits, steady work, and steady company growth as a whole. You can see that the other departments care about their employees and treat them like human beings. But you cannot experience that in support. In support you are a headcount and you will meet unnecessary guidelines that are twice as strict as other company-wide guidelines. It feels like the support managers are rewarded for making you feel like you are the only person having a hard time. Support management privately tell you, they want to support you, but they too are led by fear. Only one person is allowed to make the decisions so support managers will only do so much. The decision maker believes the support floor is a streamlined machine and if you see an issue, reporting it now makes you the real issue. If you want to work in support, you need to commit to keeping your head down, never suggesting an improvement on a process, never getting sick or you will lose your bonus because it was not planned in advance, and avoiding making any waves at all costs. Be aware you will also be measured at the end of the year and the managers are required to specifically look for unique failures in you so they can rank you on an undefined scale. Every conversation is a mission to find something to hold against you at the end of the year and they will make sure you know that.

Cons

If you are interested in feeling like you are an expendable headcount, apply now. If you are hoping to be demoralized by management (they are just an extension of a hive mind from the top down), apply now. If you would to sit at attention all day trying to juggle 3 customers and 3 chats without direct tools to help customers, apply now If you love to be evaluated by people who haven't done your job and to never be trusted to utilize their expertise to make judgement calls, apply now. If you prefer to make suggestions that could benefit that company, only to be ignored as you are not 'management', then later have management come out with a new idea as though it’s their own, which was the same as your suggestion, apply now. If you don't mind being expected to work through lunch or look down upon, apply now. If you enjoy working in a department ran by fear, apply now. If you prefer to feel like you are never good enough, all accomplishments you achieve were expected to begin with so they are not accomplishments at all, apply now If you don't mind only being told how you can do better, no matter how hard you work, apply now. If you think that your individual skills and capabilities should never be utilized because you are applying for a call center and you should not expect to be seen as anything more than an interaction conveyor belt, apply now If you would like to work for a great company that has several employee development programs and opportunities, except for this department (technical support), apply now. If you wouldn't mind working for a department where that believes in running things as if it is the 1980's, and they would rather spend an entire day trying to figure out who would complain rather than fix the issue, apply here. If you don't mind being seen as just a number, and not human, apply now.

Pros

Managers... will not demand hourly reporting. They're very friendly when you want to talk to them. There are a few good seeds (1 in 10 maybe) among middle management that seem to really know what they're doing. They're very helpful and do a great job. They do a good job of interacting with the employees, helping where they can and promoting high moral. Code... is kept in a buildable state at all times. Technology... is given and used when needed. Pro versions Profiles, analizers, extensions, plugins and everything you could want. They don't hold back when it comes to tech. Culture... is kinda quirky, but generally devs, qa, and automation engineers all get along real well and joke around a lot. The monthly team activities can be a ton of fun. Mostly everyone is pretty chill and fun do be around. Flexible work schedules are a huge benefit as well. Benefits... are mostly great. Good 401K match, good yearly bonus, flexible schedules, free fruit every morning, free snacks (if you can beat the rush). After a huge overtime fiasco, it's mostly look down on by managers, so it's rare now. Overall... If you can focus on the positive and ignore the negatives in life, you can have fun here.

Cons

Managers... are checked out (except the few good ones). They don't seem to care about anything unless upper management starts breathing down their necks. The few good ones tend to move around to avoid the drama and politics of one department for too long. Management tends to be oblivious to the departments they're overseeing. Design decisions often come with "let's just remove this feature and see if anyone was using it". Code... is just a mess. May very well be the buggiest software ever written. You will spend 90% of your time debugging and 10% redesigning something to look different to give a sense of newness. There's no structure or discernible design pattern. There are huge portions of the code base that are taboo to touch and others that are notorious for being mindbogglingly confusing. Only a very few long-time employees tend to even know what the code was meant to do in the first place. If it builds, and adheres to the guidelines (see Emphasis... below) then it's good code. Technology... has no cons. Culture... has some things that 'we don't talk about'. Everyone knows what's going on in the workplace, so no one needs talk about it. Pay is low compared to market average. There's a fairly high turnover rate due to people just being sick of the place. Some people leave with intentions of coming back to get (only way to get a raise is to get rehired). Emphasis... is given to one very specific area, unless it's not. Program-crashing bugs are top priority, unless it's not that day. Pixel-perfect UX adherence is an absolute necessity, unless we don't care at all about it. Code reviews should focus on every little whitespace change and make sure nothing is touched that doesn't need to be, unless no one cares. Overall... The company has gone slowly downhill and has lost all zeal for anything ever since the the Founder's son left as CEO a few years ago. It's tending to continue to go in that direction.

Pros

I think the best part about my job is that I am not micromanaged. I'm not really even told how to do something usually, sometimes I am just shown an example of something that works and then I get to go figure out my own way after that, I get that choice. I have one of the best relationships with my manager that one could hope for and I know that the work I do is very important and it is appreciated by my team. The work we do is challenging for almost everyone. We are entertainers and we are (some praise we have been labeled with) lifesavers and we are problem solvers and we are multi-taskers and we are nerds (well, most of us) and we are jokers and we are human and we are very skilled at what we do. (Yes, sometimes it feels like we are doing that much at once, sometimes I've found myself typing with 6-7 people at a time, with a keyboard. If you are someone with a high WPM that helps when working here) A new situation or challenge presents itself during most moments of the day. One of the biggest skills with this job is learning how to problem solve. This is a problem solving job, you will find that many times you will have to directly look up or seek out some form of resource to progress yourself on your own situation. You are aided and guided through this process as much as is needed and the sooner you learn "how" to look up the resources on your own is when you will start to settle in at this job. Some may see as the perfect challenge. I enjoy the challenge every day, I like my job. I like that I have been able to see the people around me grow in their jobs and in a lot of cases they have become the higher ups and managers I am working with now. I know I work with good people because I work with good people and I have worked with them for a long time. I have had a lot of fun experiences as I have gotten to know everyone better and I am glad I am able to spend my time at work with them. These are the best managers I have had. I feel like we are a team and we work together with a common goal. I have never felt outcast or felt lower on the food chain at any point. This is proven by small things such as snacks, drinks, and usually multiple times during the week we will have treats we may partake in. During these times you will find every manager knows everyone on the floor and they would all make it a point in their day to bring you a snack if needed if you are too busy to step away from your desk. If you ever find yourself in an emergency or otherwise need to take care of any personal situation you you are not questioned and you will only need to speak once, they are people too. They get it, they're there for their people every time. I have been able to tell my manager my work is getting to me a bit and he gave me personal suggestions to try to help make my work life better. He suggested I try different tasks and take on different items to help keep work fun and fresh. I am glad I told him I was getting a bit burnt out and it turned into a positive that I have been using to help other aspects of the team now. I can see myself working here for a long time, I'll get better and better at problem solving and I will continue to add my voice to the rest of the team to do my part in making this job in Support at Xactware the best job it can be. I am glad for my opportunity to work here, I know that I will always wake up to a job that is needed to support my family and I wanted the world to know that is appreciated.

Cons

I work in Support and I think we are kind of the most outcast department in the company. I really don't feel like they appreciate what we do very well and if they do, then I don't really believe them right now. They give us shirts or whatever, they are nice shirts. They give us a skip to the front of the food line so we can go back to helping customers faster when they do events we can't go to because our piece of the pie is helping folks. The company hosts a lot of events during the day we are not able to attend. They say we can go to workshops and trainings and just different things the company does in general, all with the caveat that it is when the "Queue" allows. We don't go to any of these things, at least that I know of. It's like a Disney movie and you can see the ironic situation the protagonist is in where if they can only do this one task they are free. We are held to a high standard of multi-tasking. At any point we are expected to balance 3 active chat interactions, and 3 possible more Level 3 interactions as you ask for help and figure out how to solve something. With the occasional side task, assignment, or work tasks in general, when we have the time. Sometimes we have the time, sometimes it feels like we don't. Alongside the once in a while, the software I rely on to work with is not working for any reason that day, sometimes it is a new issue and sometimes "it is known". I have to add in here, the it is known list is a little long in my opinion. Kitchen 88 only comes every other Thursday and they keep raising the price, how could they.
