Pros

High level of job security, defined benefit pension plan, good health care benefits, and good amount of vacation time per year.

Cons

Lower pay than similar careers in different industries. In the finance area, many groups work mandatory weekends at month/quarter/year end.

Pros

Good benefits, great pay and perks...kind of like a golden noose. Don't say anything and you will reap great rewards. If you say anything....you will be hanged.

Cons

I believe the company has issues with upper management and corruption. When this company was run by engineers as NSP, in the 1970's and 1980's, it was a well run company which treated employees with dignity and respect. Xcel is about greed and corruption and portraying a public image while not taking care of the power plants and the rate payer. HR will not not address upper management, even those who pressure women for sex as a means of advancing their careers, as it is a House of Cards. There is NO government oversight and NO regulatory oversight. Xcel is the largest lobbying company in MN and it is a monopoly and now wants a 10.5% rate increase while installing badly degraded parts in safety related equipment at a nuclear power plant, while building a 12 million dollar warehouse for parts which do not exist. Money and government have become one.

Pros

Lots of vacation time, easy to move departments, pension, and stability (rarely have layoffs and hard to get fired).

Cons

Catastrophic insurance (single person's deductible is 3000K)-this is ok if you don't have a chronic condition or need insurance, forced to use a mail order pharmacy, no innovation-over half the company is over 50 years old and have been there their entire lives. They have never worked anywhere else. So their attitude is this is the way I have been doing it for 30 years and this is the way I will do it. There are a large amount of people over 65 yeras old. This is ok, except a majority of them do not like to use computers, so everything is on paper. Many of my counterparts just surf the web all day! If you liked to be challenged this is not the place for you. BUT it doesn't matter to the company, because it is paid by the public, whether they have overhead, duplicate jobs, or people who do not provide value. Also, you have to work with people who should be fired. Lower then average pay.
