Pros

You will likely have a job for life if that is what you are looking for. There is a significant mix of contractors that work with full time staff and you get to meet some bright individuals. The pace is not very intense. The benfits package including the paid time off is very good.

Cons

Utilities are a slow paced industry with little inovation. The raises are typically small and the bonuses are not very impressive. Excellence and people that strive for excellence are rarely found in this industry. And if you happen to be one of these people the compensation guidelines are too rigid to recognize you. Way too much emphasis placed on years of service.

Pros

Supply Chain as a whole is a committed customer focused entity within Xcel. Almost every purchasing tool, business process or function of Supply Chain exists (except inventory mangement) making it a formidable and efficient tool for the company.

Cons

Managers within Supply Chain are a prime cause of turnover. Typically, before they get into these positions they are amiable and committed people, sincere toward their fellow workers. Once in management, they seem to take on a very harsh and low-tolerant attitude which already pervades the entire organization. Mixed messages go out, duplicative work is deliberately created and directors do not give 3-5 year strategy as they should. They instead spend inordinate amounts of time working directly with individual contributors - three-levels below them rather than manaaging through their direct reports. It is a very confusing and stressful atmosphere that results.
