Pros

Great group of people working in the gas department, the culture of helping and teaching new comers and apprentices how to do quality work and passing on the trade to the next generation of fitters is satisfying. The wages are very good, and there are plenty of opportunities for overtime. The boots on the ground in all departments truly care about personal and public safety and customer satisfaction. The union contract provides some excellent perks.

Cons

The HDHP is pretty much just catastrophic insurance. The distance between management and field employees in terms of communication and being on the same page even on the smallest of issues is frustrating and the customer experience and customer service suffers as a result. There is a ton of financial waste and small changes could be made to make a huge difference. Management continues to push for more and more work to be done by the contractors. Lots of nepotism- a large majority of new hires have a family member that works there.

Pros

Not much!! Salary is good, but that is because you have to deal with working at one of the worst run companies on the planet.

Cons

Could be a full time job listing the negatives. This is one of the most unethical and beguiling companies i have had the misfortune to work for. Management, including the executives are terrible at their jobs, unless you count mismanagement as a prime responsibility, e.g. $100+M wasted on nuclear. Let's just say there is a reason why Xcel is one of the worst utilities for nuclear culture and operations, in the nuclear industry.

Pros

Decent pay and good training department aside the other flaws. Good team leaders and good coworkers.

Cons

Micro management, contradicting or uncontrollable performance metrics. Progressive discipline that's almost impossible to get off of once on. Promotions based on arbitrary goals.
