Pros

Actually a very exciting and dynamic place to work (provided you are in product develop, sales or marketing) If not you get some of the dregs which are still pretty cool

Cons

Terrible C-Level management - encourages cliques, nepotism, little idea of what is actually going on

Pros

The best thing about working at Xero is that it is a product focused company. This dedication to creating a fantastic disruptive product makes working for Xero an exciting and life changing experience. Xero is a product that Accountants, Bookkeepers and Small Business people love. This has made my job as an account manager far more enjoyable and it allows me to help my partners improve their practices, rather than apologising for poor product. I can honestly saying applying for a job with Xero was the best career decision I ever made.

Cons

Xero is company that has grown very quickly and is attempting to grow on a global scale. At times change has been difficult and the expectations and responsibilities within the same role have changed so dramatically that it has become a completely different role. This forced me to grow and adapt within the role, but it did involve me letting go of my past expectations and instead going with the flow. Another thing I would say is that Xero is a company that has set the goal of disrupting not just the accounting industry, but also the small business sector. This involves a lot of hard work and goals are set very high – so someone considering applying for a role at Xero must be willing to put in the effort and work under pressure.

Pros

Really smart engineers Access to lots of great tooling including the latest AI tech Interesting work Flexible working

Cons

Loads of technical debt Lots of stuff that is not really owned. Performance is measured on a forced distribution curve and good people get forced out due to subjective assessments. Unless you are highly visible, you won't go anywhere - lots of theatre. Used to talk a lot about values. Now it's just talk about the share price.
