Pros

I'd be happy to write something in this box if I could think of a pro that outweighs any of the cons.

Cons

You'll be treated like a child by 'managers' barely out of their teens, that haven't got a clue what they're doing and feel the need make up rules on the spot to cover their own backs. They're more than comfortable fabricating stories and throwing you under the bus whenever they feel appropriate. It's sickening watching them get pubic praise regularly, when in reality they're entirely incompetent and failing their teams on a daily basis. Over the years I've seen many people that were more than adequate in their role get thrown out because someone deemed 'important' just didn't like them. If you're not in the clique, no one cares. You're just an invisible cog in a machine to them, no matter how much potential you might have. If you're not like them, you're not wanted. There are no opportunities for anyone with a good education and relevant work experience. You'll be bored to death after a few months and feel utterly undervalued. They should be hiring unambitious teenagers straight out of high school if they expect people to stay at Xero based on a poor annual payrise (if you're lucky) and a couple of freebies here and there. The people that get promoted are those that don't do the basics of their job description. Instead they befriend/flirt with people who can get them a better role and/or make a big point of volunteering to do other stuff whilst others are carrying the team in terms of the important stuff that you're actually being paid to do. It's painful when you notice a handful of managers even lack basic written and verbal English skills, when these should be two fundamental prerequisites for working in CX. A 10 year old could outshine some of these people's language abilities. Not to worry though, it's not like we have to communicate with customers all day long is it? Any complaints you have the courage to bring up will undoubtedly be twisted around into being your issue rather than theirs, despite having provided them evidence to the contrary. There's an excuse for everything or more often than not, no explanation given at all. They believe they're too important to need to give others any sort of justification, you're expected to just sit and nod. Your morals, thoughts and beliefs will be of no value to them. Being a senior or team lead trumps all. They'll only value the spineless individuals are too afraid to stand up for themselves as they know these are the people that can be moulded into what Xero wants them to be. The company values are all ridiculously contradictory. They're desperate to make people believe Xero is anti-corporate but they're the most corporate company I've had the pleasure of working for. What's even worse is the superior attitude they insist on having over competitors. Don't mistake it for confidence, it's ignorance at its finest. The gloating and poking fun at Sage is unbearable and embarrassing. When did it become uncool to be a gracious winner that displays modesty here and there?

Xero Response

I'm so sad to read this review and would encourage you to come and speak with someone in PX to try and help you resolve the many challenges you seem to be facing in your role at Xero UK. We want to help and I think, given what you have written, maybe we're already talking to you about how to progress in your role and work well with your colleagues. As a current employee, you'll be aware, we have Officevibe for ongoing internal feedback, a flat structure and an approachable leadership and management team. Our values are #challenge, #ownership, #beautiful, #champion and #human and so for anyone else reading this review, please know that we wholeheartedly encourage feedback, input and discussion at all levels and are keen to work with everyone to resolve issues as soon as we become aware of them. To the person who has posted this Glassdoor review, if you're not already, please do come and speak with us as we want you to have the opportunity to do the best work of your life and use Xero as a place to grow and develop personally and professionally. As an organisation, we're constantly changing so Xero makes for an exciting and fast paced environment that doesn't suit everyone. There are certainly things we can do better though and it would be great to continue to work with you to resolve them rather than communicating through Glassdoor. Please get in touch. Anne

Pros

Fun place to work. Solid product. Friendly people. Free snacks/drinks.

Cons

There isn't much career growth opportunity in the Denver office. Pay is low compared to Denver market rate. Yearly raises of 3% that don't meet the cost of living increase. Upper management is located in New Zealand and feel disconnected from the US. There's a platform to provide management with feedback, but not much has changed.

Pros

The culture is incredibly friendly, and for the most part processes have been hammered down and kinks worked out.

Cons

Paid well under market rate, at least in the Customer Experience department. The company is also growing very fast, and every day feels more and more corporate. I've heard the CEO say since the day I started that he doesn't want things to become corporate, but I'm watching it unfold right before our eyes. Middle management has probably been the weakest link as things have grown, not quite knowing how to manage a staff that already knows what they're doing and trying to change a status quo that was working pretty well to begin with. Also not much room for growth in the Denver office, almost every job is over in New Zealand.
