Pros

Xilinx has competitive benefits and salary. It doesn't take much to keep up with the crowd and be a good worker bee. I can come in the office at 8:30AM and leave at 5PM. I never have to worry about real deadlines. You don't really need to worry about your quarterly goals, as they have little to no bearing on your salary or bonus.

Cons

There is no personal or professional growth at Xilinx. The company has no strategy for growth, yet it will not admit that it is becoming a commodity product. Altera (the biggest competitor) has realized this and is adjusting its business accordingly. Continued offshoring will only continue to ensure that innovation is stiffled. Nothing gets accomplished in face-to-face meetings at Xilinx, so how can anything be accomplished over the phone with a 12 hour time difference. It seems as if they should also start off-shoring some executive jobs as well. That would save the company millions.

Pros

In today's climate, the best reason to work for Xilinx is a salary that pays the rent and the food. Another one is getting expertise in a top field, although, sadly, these days one has a hard time getting exposure to all the important aspects of this technology (and this is why I put it in a 2nd position). Other than that...

Cons

Not having your work recognized; not being able to speak the truth for fear of being reprimanded or worse; having to put up with incompetent mid-managers and directors who don't understand the problems and whose only quality is obedience towards the higher-ups and a bent spine; petty politics.

Pros

1. Cafeteria serves some quality food 2. Reverse commute

Cons

Work Culture: 1. Managers do not lead nor inspire. Their "vision" is to put out "fires" than have a long term solution to anything 2. Software engineering with outdated practices 3. Limited career growth potential
