Difficult to say where the company is headed

Pros

Xilinx is a very healthy company with excellent products. As an employee, the benefits in terms of bonus and stock plans have been welcome of late when other companies are having pay cuts and paying no bonus out. There is still some room for innovation despite tighter financial controls of late.

Cons

The company is becoming very mature in outlook and may not be as exciting as it once was for people with career growth in mind. Due to recent lay-offs and a more draconian performance management system, it would seem there is increasing time spent doing CYAs rather than actual managing/working.

Pros

New Management is aggressively trying to drive Xilinx out of "status quo" and "pocket veto" and into growth and increased profitability. Prevoius mangement sat silent while the world moved ahead. this is different but this is better.

Cons

For those who invested heavily in Xilinx, it is difficult to be let go. This was caused by years of poor management, little accountability, and ranking everyone as a top performer. Clearly there are good people who were sent on their way. That is a shame. However, if you look at the steel industry or the automotive industry, staying the same really means innovation because "we know what is best for the customer", loss of marketshare, loss of profits and the decline of a once great company. Change is hard. Change is a necessity.

Pros

good benefits and has looked after engineers in the past.

Cons

Xilinx pretends to be inclusive while the flat management structure and Management centric decisions, lack of delegation and overall squandering of engineering talent makes Xilinx less than inclusive.
