Micromanagement and an intense surveillance culture by shop/operations management created a stressful work environment. There was a strong perception that certain employees regularly reported coworkers activities to management, which damaged trust within the team. Employees were often blamed or criticized when mistakes occurred despite receiving little to no proper product training or technical instruction. Communication from some managers was unprofessional at times, including the unnecessary use of vulgar language. Break times were closely monitored, sometimes down to the minute, while non work conversations among certain favoured coworkers were overlooked. Social relationships outside of work between lead hands supervisor and shop/operations management created the perception of favouritism. Opportunities for advancement were also extremely limited, as management positions appeared to be held long term by the same individuals with little opportunity for others to progress.
