Pros

Lots of good people, talented engineers and very good co-workers. People are mostly friendly, the company is extremely good about responding to social challenges (being green, volunteer work, donations, etc). There are lots of cool technologies to work on.

Cons

The senior management is incompetent, looming lay-offs and the morale is down. There are lots of cool technologies, but not enough direction. There's also so much bureaucracy. Fix the Parking, we have an external website to showcase the bad parking for chris'sake! Also what's up with the cafeteria ? I think some one is getting a kick-back!

Pros

Best part about working with Yahoo is the amount of talented engineers you get to work with. I learned a lot about technology just by reading through various mailing lists where these tech-experts are educating other yahoos on the best practices. Its a casual, open work environment which helps you relax and maintain a good work-life balance.

Cons

The company has no direction. the business units does not have enough control over their engineering resources. Promotion opportunities are less as most of the business units are not faring very well. It gets worse by total lack of communication between the upper management and employees.

Good people, fair compensation. Great chance for professional project development. As a software engineer, it doesn't matter what your specialty is - C++, Java, Perl, PHP - you may have a chance to use them all.

Cons

Occasional lack of clear direction from management. Potential lack of long term career opportunities.
