Pros

Nice to get to positively impact the community and many of the coworkers are great to work with

Cons

Pay could be better especially for the staff working directly with the public. A new director started 1.5 to 2 yrs ago and morale is at an all-time low now. People keep leaving bc of the chaos and andbeing treated like we don't matter as people. Depressing that a public org has turned into tthis.Since there's no way for staff to fix things, turnover is at a crazy high bc things have become is so toxic under the new director.

Pros

Knowing that you positively impact your community. Excellent, and professional front staff/supporting roles.

Cons

Safety: The new director and administration consistently ignore concerns made by staff, and actively changed policies and procedures that directly impact the safety of staff, but not themselves; an example being the inclement weather policy, it's easy to make staff come into work during bad weather when you have the option to work from home. Toxic Work Environment: Several middle-level managers perpetuate a hostile and toxic work environment, advocating against the concerns of what some managers have referred to as "lower level employees" regarding pay and downplaying their issues.

Pros

Most front-line staff and other non-management, "behind the scenes" employees are professional, care about their work/patrons, and were fun to work with. Felt like we were having a positive impact on the community, particularly for people/patrons who society has left behind. The new union brings a sense of hope that things can improve

Cons

Very low wages, especially for those in "lower level" positions. There's a clear disconnect between administration/management, and they don't listen to staff concerns or ideas. Decisions are made by admin without input from staff, even when those decisions affect only non-management, and then they act dismissive when employees are upset with their policies. Instead of addressing or prioritizing workplace safety concerns, management tends to dismiss or belittle employees who report incidents. There's no regard for staff well-being, and the admin lacks empathy and professionalism in handling staff concerns.
