Pros

social atmosphere friendly staff great mission The company is large and has been expanding rapidly; so there are plenty of opportunities to wear lots of different hats and contribute to the greater mission in some way.

Cons

The company is large, and collaboration across different cities/sites has been weak. They keep reinventing the wheel. While the intended mission of Year Up is good, the execution is poor. The rules (dress code, demerits policy, personality tests, etc.) are flawed and used without a grain of salt (but whole heartedly).

Pros

The best work experience I have ever had. Most companies speak to a mission but at Year Up you literally feel the mission everyday. The culture is extremely nurturing. I study business for a living and have never been big on non-profits as the best catalyst for change, largely because many run inefficiently and also band-aid issue as opposed to fixing them. Year Up however is an incredibly smart organization. They teach their students how to fish. The culture is incredible and the anchor to its success. You will grow as a person in this position.

Cons

The pay isn't the highest but you know that coming into to the non-profit world. Because of the autonomy, the organization's success, as well as an individual's personal experience, varies from site to site depending on the leadership.
