I had a workaholic manager, who didn't know how to manage time. We ended up staying late up to 2 sometimes just to make sure the work is done. If you are in your initial years and ready to work long hours you should join. I would suggest don't judge the company on one persons opinion. I feel their are other projects which will provide you some work life balance I hope you find a better manager.

I was in one of UK client project. If you do whatever the clients work properly, comes on time but talk less then no body appreciates you and you won't get even average hike. If you want hike then talk more even if you are doing gossip no problem and not doing work and not coming on time but you are visible to others. Suggestion - Connect with manager every month for feedback. If you are thinking you are doing your work and will get good increment. This is not the thing.
