Disconnected with employees. Obsessed with buying all competition
Pros
Full benefits OK pay Occasional employee activities for celebration of events Stock options.. I guess Not much more than that
Cons
Disconnected management team. Especially for the dev team. They have no idea why all their employees are leaving though it is quite obvious. The company (dev team at least) is obsessed with doing things quickly. Getting things just working enough to push to production. Due to this there is constant hot fixing and an ever expanding catalog of bugs. It feels like the entire platform is holding on by strings. The code base is horrific and does not take any best practices into account. It also uses Java 6 which is years old. Object arrays are everywhere as well. They use old tooling such as eclipse and shrug off using more modern tooling. Another issue is the person directing the dev team is hardly even in the office and live in another state working from home, however when others want to work from home they are usually denied or told that he doesn't trust people enough to do that. Double standards?? There is no 401k matching which sucks. When our company was acquired by Zift it seemed like they haven't planned at all. We were given 24 hours to sign a new contract or whatever and were not allowed to negotiate at all. Pay wasn't that great for the area either. They only take state schooled graduates and I have seen what seemed to me like discrimination against anyone that didn't go to a well known school, which is pretty crazy. For visual design some of the devs think they know better than the designer and will flat out ignore the designer. I have heard complaints of "too hard to do" for some designs which is crazy cause the UI person is very talented. Some employees are extremely opinionated and talk into the bosses ear. There are only a few employees that the boss actually trusts, and there is a private chat channel they use to talk about other employees. CEO is disconnected with IT and seems to not care that people are leaving en mass. To me it was a train wreck and my coworker left as fast as I did. If you have other offers at other companies I encourage you to take this into account.
