Pros

A lot of great people at Zillow. Comfortable place to work - never felt pressured to work while sick or shamed for taking time off. Compensation was fair for my particular role.

Cons

Communication was poor throughout the company, seemingly in all roles and orgs. There did seem to be an effort to address this, but never seemed to yield results. It became clear my role was not being supported, but we were told our role was vital to the company all the time. Then they laid us off in a five minute Zoom call from a new VP who rarely made any appearances since hired - cancelled nearly all scheduled meetings and had a reputation of not being present. They're still there. This was insulting after Zillow upper management suggested the way Better laid off was unprofessional. HR/Hiring seemed in disarray.

Pros

Great benefits and easily the most helpful culture I’ve ever been a part of.

Cons

1) Constant Pivots As a former employee who was part of the lay off, these organizational changes, or “pivots” was a major factor in my ability to thrive long term. The first pivot resulted in a 25% layoff, following a massive failure in the iBuying space. The second pivot forced hundreds to lose their jobs, mine included. The worst part was reading the press release, stating that the newest round of layoffs “was to make room for another pivot into the housing super app.” Change can be scary, so the saying goes. But change is terrifying when it is reoccurring, causing job losses, and being driven by unrealistic ambitions for the future of Zillow.

Pros

Great brand recognition, and good for building a strong network.

Cons

Low pay, and leadership flat out lies to their direct reports about pretty much everything. Some really incredible people work at Zillow, but most don't get to utilize their strengths b/c Sr. Leaders are power hungry, and/or straight order takers from the C-Suite, and have zero creative authority.
