Pros

The People org at Zillow is great. The company invests in its people with strong L+D. They are intentional about the culture and lean into their core values for recruiting, evaluations and every day employee engagement. It is not perfect, but the intent and investment is there. Pay is not top of the market, but it is good, and benefits are strong (DTO, good health insurance, good maternity/paternity, etc). The core, agent business is solid and almost bullet proof now that Zillow has such strong awareness and large audience. When the housing market struggles, agents spend with Zillow to maximize their opportunity to win business. When the housing market is strong, agents spend with Zillw because they have the money and want to win more.

Cons

Leadership tends to chase the shiny object, and allocate more resources than deserved to moonshots and ideas that look great in paper but have no solid executional plans. Among leadership and across the company, talkers and dreamers are rewarded and elevated, but there is no enough appreciation for doers and operational people that can land a strategy in solid tactics and implementation. Therefore, lots of effort and resources go into poorly scoped and planned projects/initiatives that end up taking more resources than initially thought and end up failing. As resources are limited, and a lot goes to the dreammy, poorly scoped ideas, there is under-investment on the core, proven businesses, and the foundational and operational work to make things more efficient and effective, leaving a lot of money on the table.

Pros

Work from home because if everyone went into the office there would be violence among workers.

Cons

Zillow is the shadiest business in existence. Their product is completely fake and the executive team loves pro-actively screwing over real estate agents aka their customers. Zillow also loves screwing over their investors, hence the massive Zillow Offers lawsuit. Zillow will go bankrupt being sued for all the money they pro-actively lost their investors. Do not work at Zillow Group!

Pros

- top notch benefits ( company paid healthcare, wellness stipend, wfh expense stipend, 6 week R&R after 6 years, 5% 401k match) - wfh (most roles are fully remote with flexible hours ) - overall company culture is solid (team to team varies based on mgmt) - career development (LinkedIn Learning, leadership trainings, etc)

Cons

- pay (leadership knows ppl are leaving due to low pay but their solution is higher offers for new hires so they end up making more than loyal, tenured staff) - so much change. Change can be good but 4+ mgrs in 3 years, being shuffled around to different teams, bringing in mgmt from outside that treat people as numbers vs actual humans and destroying morale ain't it. - unlimited PTO only if salaried - internal mobility sounds nice but is INCREDIBLY difficult - definitely more of a who you know vs. what you know type situation. Most mgrs that post internally already know who they're hiring. - morale in general took a dive after ZO wind down. Multiple rounds of layoffs - staff that remain on board are sometimes "rewarded" with stock options that are pretty much worthless at this point. - pay raises not in line with inflation and only once per year. They are "merit" based but most employees only see about 2-3% increases each year.
