Pros

It was an exciting place to work because they seemed to be on the cutting edge and really on their game. There were events designed to make employees feel like they were part of a team. The teamwork aspect was heavily promoted. And they had quarterly all company meetings with required attendance that would highlight the athena scorecard.

Cons

Although they had processes in place designed to allow feedback for employees own scorecard, in many cases they were not used. Several people were let go without any warning whatsoever. It is truly disheartening to have human resources disregard their own methods for feedback. I have to agree with others who have mentioned the CEO jumping in to make changes when it seemed as though changes were made for simply to stir things up and not make things better.

Pros

athenahealth is a fast-growing, well-established, company that is building a successful business that provides a cloud-based "operating system" for the medical office. It's a great place to work -- the work is challenging, and the development team is fun, supportive, smart, and fully engaged in the company's mission of "fixing" healthcare.

Cons

The interview process is grueling, and its a tough place to get hired. New developers get a lot of opportunity to advance and excel, but succeeding at athena takes a lot more than 40 hours a week.
