Pros

Professional and friendly colleagues; good benefits; good ethics. Interesting work.

Cons

Overly complicated structure and things keep changing all the time. The Functional model embedded in E&P since Macondo has led to BP having more people post Macondo than pre Macondo and that is after asset divestitures. BP is therefore having to cut double hard with low oil prices. But meeting financial targets is not getting the share price up. Plus people find it hard to concentrate on safety and their jobs with all these cuts, uncertainty and change. If you aren't a Brit will now be hard to get a senior position due to limitations on expats.

Pros

Good work life balance. Excellent compensation and benefits. Strong functional/technical communities of practice. Wide range of opportunities associated with large organization. Excellent acceptance of diverse cultures.

Cons

Poor Leadership, poor ability to define, plan and achieve strong business delivery. Organization has herd mentality, fails to identify key issues and gets lost in details. A small power group controls messages and fails to take advantage of the strength of the organization. Over reliance on official processes over common sense. Over reliance on a global assurance model over local expertise.

Pros

Friendly onboard atmosphere. Good salary and bonus. Great leave ratio. Reliefs usually on time. Exceptional training and development program. Positive culture. Opportunities to move into a shore based role for those wishing to move ashore.

Cons

Promotion appears to be more by seniority than meritocracy. There is a formal promotion structure but after achieving this promotion, for junior ranks at least, is either by being in the right place at the right time or having reached the top of the queue.
