Pros

Relaxed, casual work atmosphere Friendly people, always willing to help A lot of training available -- classes, workshops, etc.

Cons

In terms of procurement, very unorganized. Difficult to find data. Can be attributed to the fact that BP is such a large global corporation. No company mandates, makes it hard to implement procurement policies

Pros

They let people pursue their outside passions. Individuals can participate in professional organizations if they choose, However, this is not necessary and more often tahn not managament simply pays no attention to those employees that have managed to find their way into relationships that can be influential in state and federal government. There are a number of very competent personnel as individual contributors. These professionals are very willing to share their knowledge and provide mentoring. Mostly though, these folks do their job and go home never pausing to look back as they await a buy-out package or retirement.

Cons

One must stay inside the context of one's job, follow orders and let the Brit's run the outfit. You'll survive and collect a paycheck. Upward feedback is an exercise as the overall culture and morale never seems to change much from year to year. Creativity is not necessary; it is expected that one will stick to their knitting and get their work done.

Pros

The employees at BP are generally good, talented employees. Unfortunately the direction from senior management was all over the place, so re-organizations became a yearly event. If you are a good solid employee that is willing to relocate for the company, however, your job is (usually) safe. They are pretty good at rewarding performance and recognizing their better employees. But as the overall company performance continues to decline, it is harder and harder to keep the good people. And as more good people see the writing on the wall, the more people jump ship...which just leads to a continued decline in talent....it's become a slippery slope.

Cons

Because of the declining performance of the company, many jobs have been eliminated and therefore the career paths of many people have become limited. Anyone coming into the company now won't have the many different options for career growth that used to be available. In the US, there are really only two places to work now (used to be over five) - Los Angeles or Houston. Employee morale is pretty much in the toilet now, and it will take a long time before that recovers. Until senior management gets their act together, it will be hard to see a light at the end of this tunnel.
