Pros

Your future with the company is largely determined by your drive and ability to take charge. This independence can allow you to move quickly and cut through the red tape. More often than not, you will need to assume the responsibilities of other positions and learn about tech, processes, and procedures that are completely different from your original position. There are some projects that are out of this world. Especially when you realize that you are working in comics and are helping to create something that, potentially, millions could enjoy. It is a fast paced environment and the ability to adapt is paramount. Usually, there is a co-worker willing to help and those people will quickly become your go-to advisors. Of those advisors, there will be one or two who will stand out as just awesome people, and will become a friend.

Cons

Workplace practices and procedures are often contradictory. The best laid plans will often change at the last minute for an entirely different approach. Supervisors have their favorite direct reports and tend to forget about the others. Recognition for good work is fleeting, especially if you're not a chosen favorite. Being overlooked for promotions or general considerations will happen. Departments can sometimes be run like a medieval fiefdom- where standard company policies and procedures are ignored and the word of whomever is in charge becomes law. If you have a medical condition or disability, be aware of your rights- the system in place for accommodation requests was overly complex and inflexible. Working with other, different teams will happen often, though some on those teams will not assist, leaving you to either do their work or find a way around it. You will work a lot and you will lack a work/life balance.

There is a lot to do here

Pros

Definitely a fun environment to work in, flexible schedule (barring any, rare, emergencies), and very good benefits. The staff are a lot of really excited people who want to do great things for comic books and solve big problems. Integration with Amazon offers a lot of really cool benefits as far as what can be used to solve problems. Working with Amazon also allows for a lot of potential upward movement and opportunity to work with a lot of diverse and intelligent people.

Cons

comiXology is incredibly ambitious and because of that there's a lot to be done with stretched resources. Team sizes are good but 2+ years into the Amazon acquisition, only some of the growing pains are gone. The turnover of long time staff cashing in post-aqusition has left some knowledge lost which tends to lead to overhauls of small pieces of infrastructure with unforeseen effects causing other small pieces to malfunction.
