Pros

eBay is a good place to work - they strive to be a great place to work, but do not achieve that standard. Their benefits are good, their compensation is above average. You won't be too stressed and you'll be able to have a good work-life balance. HR has been working on leadership development.

Cons

eBay is too big. It even seems bigger than it is. It is filled with ex-consultants. If you work there, I would try to work inside on of the businesses. Also, be prepared for A LOT of Powerpoint - making slides is a critical skill.

Pros

There are many challenging problems to be solved at eBay, which can make for intellectually stimulating work. Also, though the talent level does vary, there are many smart people within the organization who are fun to work with by and large.

Cons

It all starts at the top and eBay is fundamentally lacking in leadership or and vision. The Company is facing enormous strategic challenges but no one has shown me a coherent (and credible) plan for addressing them. Sorry, but "Trust, Value, and Selection" and "Deals you can talk about" just doesn't cut it for me. The people who run the marketplace business have demonstrated time and again that they don't understand technology, product development, and the core problems eBay's site, which leads them to seek quick fixes instead of demonstrating the patience and fortitude to address the big problems which won't deliver short-term benefits.

Pros

In general, the work life balance is decent and the work is interesting.

Cons

Upper management doesn't have a clear strategy for eBay, so all the VPs and below are running around trying to come up with recommendations. Getting projects prioritized is very difficult when you need other teams to buy in to your project. There are many intelligent people and leaders at eBay, but unfortunately there isn't a great sense of direction. I find that we're constantly working very hard to get some sort of project out, only to run into technical issues or another group which questions what we're trying to accomplish. We also have some technical issues which are preventing the approval of some of the projects. We have been iterating on our search algorithm and page designs for too many years now, without much progress.
