Pros

Lots of free food, free bagels, free swag. The product exists for a good purpose: to make the recruiting and onboarding experience better. At least it used to... Great building, location. Some great people....if they're still around

Cons

The company is all about the core competencies. "Drink your own champagne." Except that the leadership is not transparent, shows no empathy, etc etc. New hires are sold on the idea of what the company once was, in reality it is a cult-like atmosphere of those that are "in", and those that aren't are shown the door quickly. Morale is horrible, and that was before the company gave employees about 100 more reasons to be uneasy. Success was never celebrated, but manager focus was on every misstep or mistake in order to document a case for a swift exit should the need arise. Hard to succeed with NO training, NO coaching, No direction, and then given unattainable goals. Company pay scale is below market average, making it challenging to attract top talent. Many managers are in role simply due to tenure, and struggle to be effective leaders.

Deceitful, fueled only by money

Pros

Working here, you wouldn’t build a product that would actively make the world more evil (like working at some banks or certain social networks).

Cons

Below-market pay. Their entire reason for existing is “to make $500 million a year”. Overly bureaucratic, too much red tape, nepotism/favoritism. Lack of leadership, vision, direction. Classic strategy of solicit feedback, pretend to listen, and then do what they want. Most recent round of layoffs (sudden, unexpected – the managers didn’t even know their own direct reports were being laid off until it was already done, and now they’re left wondering how they’re going to deliver on their products to the customers) are just a symptom of the problem. The only logical explanation for the way they handled the recent layoffs is that they actually wanted more people to leave voluntarily, so they tried to upset them and lower morale.

Very Poor Lay Off Execution

Pros

The people who worked here were awesome. My teams felt like families and a lot of the connections I made exist beyond my employment.

Cons

Acquired by the Private Equity Firm Vista and things started to go downhill. I would like to believe I was one of the more hopefully people who thought things wouldn't be too bad once Vista hopped on board but I soon realized I was sadly mistaken. Since iCIMS was acquired by Vista the culture felt it began to go downhill. Soon the focus was not about building something 'bug free' or 'easy to use' but on making sure things were released ASAP; whether the product was bug free was something we would worry about "after release". To make things worse, a plan was set in place to get rid of all test engineers within the company. They wanted to turn these TE's into "Software Engineers" and developers when in-turn expected to begin UI testing as well. This, unfortunately, called for many people well into their careers to consider changing their own career path. While I stayed optimistic about this career change, a year later I was informed we want to move testing off-shore. This product already had enough issues while being tested internally, by the people who know it the best. I can't imagine how many issues will result from this off-shore testing... All in all, I loved working for this company for the last few years but was unfortunately met with the sad reality of private equity - soon became about reducing unnecessary expenses and streamlining our business to improve profit/expense ratios, but in theory, the human component suffered tremendously.
