Pros

Management does not micromanage and is flexible with work arrangements Most people are easy going

Cons

Salary is low Benefits are not great (no 401k matching, no overtime pay, health insurance isn't the best, continuing education bonus is low) On-call rotation on the weekends and after hours You will work more than 40 hours a week with no extra compensation whatsoever As an analyst, you're expected to figure it out on your own because they lack the engineering/development team support even with tasks that's totally out of the analyst duties. If you're doing great, they will say "thanks for your hard work" but don't expect a bonus!

Pros

Work in varied environments where one can be exposed to multiple architectures in for profit, non-profit, educational, financial, construction, ISP, Datacenter, MSP environments. Comparing this to a corporate MSP I worked in I found the corporate environment very boring and needlessly limited. For example one client had a TCP connection issue with mobile devices. I fixed this by leveraging sysctl and IPTables to modify the TCP stack on the employer's product (edge firewall). Client was happy however I was called in and lightly disciplined because my manager was non technical and saw what I did as not the way. This would never happen at onShore because management all the way up to the CEO are either technical themselves or know how to use find out the things they do not know.

Cons

Initial pay may be slightly lower than elsewhere however the bonuses are good and it is possible to obtain better pay as one grows with yearly reviews and showing professional and/or personal growth. Also the various bonus structures over the years are pretty decent.
