Pros

-Really great concept. I thought we were doing important work. -also the snacks

Cons

-Company will maybe last 2 more years? -truly a mess -everyone is drinking the Kool-Aid -culture of fear and conformity -it's all a crock and you aren't changing the world nearly as much as the company makes it seem like you are. -no real room for advancement. Maybe 10% of the company really gets promotions and that's just because of favoritism (this is favoritism like you've never seen before). -the way you're treated if you aren't in the inner circle -no one tells you what's really happening at the company except for the occasional gossip. The monthly meetings are all a facade that reveal so little actual information. -forced a bunch of people into an ultimatum to either move to the middle of nowhere in Utah that has high rent or to leave the company for no real business purpose. -rarely has an HR -I think they're actually happy to let people go?

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. Because we are a small company, we have a very good understanding of our employees; who they are, how they communicate, what motivates them and what deters them. That’s especially true for those who have spent 3 years with us. Every now and then we get a review that makes us wonder where things are coming from. This is one of those reviews. We’d love to address your claims, as we know them to be inaccurate. We have 3 offices and some people have actually asked to transfer offices but at no time was anyone told they had to move or they had no job. Banjo has never given any employee an ultimatum. We give people the opportunity to grow at Banjo and everyone who has been with us for 3 years has grown in areas of salary, title, responsibility, and stock. Not everyone gets the same advancements because we base those things on actual performance, not longevity. As someone who was here for 3 years, you know the work we do. We will continue to stay focused on our North Star which is to save lives and end human suffering. We hope the time you spent at Banjo contributed to your career and that you will apply this knowledge and experience to your next role.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, although brief and lacking any detail. We understand the overnight shift can be taxing, but what we don't understand is your review. We would love to address your concerns, but unfortunately, you didn't provide any context. Seeing you are a current employee, we ask that you speak with the one senior team lead you seem to admire so we can uncover and address your concerns properly.

Just Don't

Pros

You get to meet some wonderful people on the events team. Free snacks available in the break room. Great benefits.

Cons

Bullying is rampant throughout the organization, long hours with very little pay and only a 30-minute break. Do not relocate for this job. The company won't pay for it and it's not worth it. The only tech company I know that has poor quality tech, so many people on shift that you may not have a seat or computer to work on for about the first hour and a half of your shift. However, don't worry about that it's still your fault if you can't meet the arbitrary "goal" that they set for you that day. You also start out as a private contractor for the first three months. Meaning you don't get benefits or taxed for the first three months (More on that later). Remember those free snacks that were mentioned in the “pros” portion? Yeah, you get angry Slack messages to the company chat about eating them. Yes, your department is fussed at for taking advantage of the free snacks. On top of being yelled at for eating the snacks, God forbid if you take a snack or a drink home at the end of the day. You’ll be fired if they notice you’ve done that. They also only require certain team members to go through training in order to do tasks that are more advanced. Some are forced to sit through a training and others are just handed the task. In addition, there are different standards to what type of event is appropriate to share depending on a shift, a traffic accident may be the best story to put it for morning shift but may be the worst idea for swing or overnight. There will never be a legitimate reason why that is and it will change all the time. In addition, the company as a whole loves to exclude swing and overnight shifts from the company outings they host. By doing so they create this weird animosity between Morning and the other two shifts. Let’s circle back to the taxes. They never send you a 1099for your contractor period. You have to try to figure out who still works at the company (because no one has a phone number or a public email) to ask for your tax documents. When you finally jump through the hoops to find someone they send you a screenshot from someone’s phone of your 1099. I’m pretty sure the IRS wouldn’t like that. There’s also no HR department, so shady things happen all the time. There’s also no transparency so you’ll be lost in the organization a lot. The events team leads will often make things up or respond to questions with nonsense to avoid saying that they don’t know what’s going on.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. Based on the content, this review is coming almost a year after the fact. We would love to address your points as we know them to be inaccurate. We don't tolerate any type of "bullying" in the work place. During the hiring process, we clearly outline the scope of work and the pay which according to the average wages in Las Vegas, Banjo pays well above the average. In fact, people who have left Banjo have asked if there were openings to come back because they were unable to find jobs with equivalent pay. Free snacks - unfortunately, we had an employee who was stealing and taking home duffle bags full of food and drink after every single shift. This meant a policy had to be enacted which was you can eat and drink all you want while you are here, but you are not allowed to leave with any food or beverage. Any angry comments over slack would have come from employees gossiping. To address 1099's, again that’s a distortion. Tax forms are mailed out and as one can imagine, not every form gets delivered due to change of address, inaccurate address, or a mistake within the USPS. When someone wrote in a panic, a copy was delivered immediately and a hard copy was sent to the proper address. We absolutely do have an HR department, although it's not in Las Vegas. Our team did not all quit, we had to part ways with those who were underperforming which unfortunately leads to distortions posted on Glassdoor. Hopefully your time at Banjo will help you be successful in your future roles.
