Pros

Some of the people are cool

Cons

- The CEO is a narcissistic egomaniac who enjoys belittling people in meetings and generally hires like minded people. - There is no defined strategy; they chase after the next dollar pivoting at the first sniff of a payment and overvalue their products. - The recruiter wrote the review: "this crystal ball can't be broken"... the only good review - No live work balance, not even weekends off... they make you work 24/7/365

Thank you for taking the time to share your point of view. While our team understands that our culture and the fast pace of a start-up world isn’t for everyone, it does not mean our employees do not have any work-life balance. Our employees work hard to achieve our mission and have plenty of work-life balance with our generous vacation policies. We believe in a quick turnaround and sometimes that means late nights or weekends but that is an expectation we make very clear upon hiring. Our CEO is a true leader that is driven by our mission, and only wants all of our employees to succeed. Our recruiting team hires people from all different backgrounds and by no means only hires family and friends. While Banjo wasn't a fit for you, we hope the experience with a fast-paced startup added value to your career.

Pros

- Low process, short meetings, and high productivity on most engineering teams - There are some fun projects here - Many genuinely talented and effective coworkers - Tons of knowledge and experience here to absorb if you pay attention - There is a small chance Banjo will reach orbit someday

Cons

- All of that turnover in the last year has left some holes - Years of accumulated tech debt just waiting to act up in surprising ways - Likely no one outside of Banjo will ever know what you do here - Don't ask where all of the data comes from unless you want to help get more - Between development speed, quality, and cost effectiveness, the priority is "yes" - Free food is nice but doesn't make the culture or work atmosphere happier - And don't let that free food, life outside of work, or even sleep cut into your productivity - Confused about Banjo's direction and goals? Just wait a quarter or two for another round of exciting new changes - Banjo is always going to win! ...in six months, or a year ...every year

Thank you for taking the time to write a review, we always appreciate the feedback. It’s unfortunate after years at Banjo, this never surfaced. We have a very open and honest culture and we encourage people to speak out. We absolutely had some personnel changes, but those changes needed to happen in order to move Banjo forward. You said it yourself, we have high productivity on our engineering teams, with low process and short meetings. We firmly believe you can have speed, quality and be cost effective all at the same time and we will always strive for all three. It’s true that most people don’t know what our team is working on because we fly under the radar. We don’t like to talk about things, we just make things happen. We are surprised to hear you felt goals and direction changed. We talk about our “North Star” in almost every meeting, how it’s important we stay the course and to not get distracted. We thank you for the time you spent with us and if you’d ever like to have a more in-depth confidential conversation, we would love to hear from you.

Pros

-If you love cult-like environments, this is the place for you -90% of the Events Team are good, fun people. Chances are you don't want to know the other 10%... -Taco Bell is walking distance

Cons

Don't apply if you dislike: -being micromanaged by people who are painfully inexperience and have no idea what they are doing -being over worked, under paid and under appreciated -working holidays/weekends/overtime with absolutely NO compensation -unrealistic goals/exceptions (literally impossible to achieve in an 8 hr shift, hence the unpaid overtime) -being over worked, under paid and under appreciated -being forced to come in/stay hour(s) early/late every day if you don't reach said unrealistic goals - let me stress this... with absolutely zero compensation -days off change weekly with little to no notice -being over worked, under paid and under appreciated -managers who know little to nothing about what they are doing/talking about (am I being redundant?) -lack of communication and direction -being over worked, under paid and under appreciated -being trapped on the events team with no room for growth

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry you felt under appreciated and overworked; the Digital Team is an important part of Banjo and definitely impacts our success. Our Digital Team is scheduled across 3 shifts with daily goals spread across the team throughout the day. We are not a 9-5 company and we have never claimed to be. We are surprised to hear the comments on pay, as have always been told we are one of the better paying companies in Las Vegas and when an offer is made, we are very clear what the hours and expectations are. As a salaried employee, overtime isn’t applicable. That being said, rarely does anyone on that team work more than 45-50 hours a week which is on the low end for a startup. The Managers of this team are people who started as individual contributors, showed great initiative and productivity, and earned promotions in title, responsibility and pay. We are very proud of them and they absolutely deserve to be leaders. It’s unfortunate but sometimes it’s hard for others to take direction from people who they label inexperienced because they happen to be younger than many of the people they are supervising. It is true we have a very unique culture, a team of hard working people who are passionate about Banjo's technology and vision. We don’t disagree, as another reviewer said, “it’s not for everyone” and it seems the startup world wasn’t a fit for you. We hope you have found a better fit.
